📜 Regulating Act of 1773
- First attempt by British Parliament to regulate East India Company’s rule in India.
- Governor of Bengal became Governor-General of Bengal — First was Warren Hastings.
- Supreme Court of Calcutta established in 1774 (4 judges).
- Prohibited Company officials from engaging in private trade (to control corruption).
- Company had to submit annual reports to the British government.

- Established Dual Control between British Government and East India Company.

⚡ Fact: Dual Government started informally in Bengal in 1765, but legally recognised in 1784.
📘 Charter Act 1813
- Ended East India Company’s trade monopoly (except China & tea).
- Allowed Christian missionaries to propagate religion and set up schools.
- Company continued as the administrative ruler but lost trade privileges.
- Introduced Education Grant of ₹1 lakh per annum.
- Permitted Indians to establish private industries.

📘 Charter Act 1833
- Created the post of Governor-General of India — Lord William Bentinck was the first.
- Ended East India Company’s trading activities completely.

- Started inclusion of non-official members in the legislative councils.

- Abolished East India Company — Rule transferred to British Crown.
- Title of Viceroy of India created — First was Lord Canning.

- Marked the beginning of Crown Rule in India.
